About Queensborough Community Centre - Our Story and Values

Building Community Spirit Since Opening

Our Story and Mission

Queensborough Community Centre was established back in 1984. The centre is located on the Scovell Estate and was built by Southwark Council architects in the 1970's.

Queensborough is Volunteer-led; unlike some centres, it has historically been run primarily by volunteers through a management committee. The centre and its volunteers have frequently been featured in Southwark Civic Awards for their service to the borough. The Centre is closely linked with the Lsborough and Scovell Tenants Residents Association.

Offering a welcoming, accessible place for residents to gather, learn new skills, and enjoy recreational activities. We are dedicated to nurturing community bonds by supporting diverse events and groups of all ages.

As we look ahead, we remain excited about what the future holds. We will continue working to bring new ideas, opportunities, and support to the community while building on the strong foundations we have created together. Our community centre is more than just a building, it is a place of connection, kindness, and hope. We are incredibly proud of how far we have come and look forward to continuing this journey with our community by our side.

Our Team

Our volunteers are the heart of our centre. Their dedication, kindness, and hard work help create a welcoming and supportive space for everyone in the community. From helping organise seasonal events to supporting local families, elderly residents, and vulnerable individuals, to helping to keep the food hub running. Their efforts bring people together and help reduce isolation.

Without the commitment of our volunteer team, the centre simply would not be able to operate as successfully as it does today. We are incredibly proud of everything they do and are deeply grateful for the time and care they give each week.

We also remember past members of the committee, whose hard work contributed to making the center what it is today.
